I am writing to remind you of things you already know. You have agency in every situation that life presents because you have a choice in how you respond.
What conditions do you place on your happiness? Filling in the blanks in these sentences can be informative:
If only (that person) would stop doing this, then I would be happy.
If only (that person) would start doing this, then I would be happy.
If only (this circumstance) would change, then I would be happy.
Once you have identified your list of conditions, the following question, regarding each one, can be helpful:
Where is my power in this situation?
If you’ve decided that your happiness depends on another person changing, you have the opportunity to recognize that you are powerless and cannot manage someone else. Your power does lie, however, in speaking your truth, making a request, setting a boundary, if needed, and asking yourself what part you play.
If you’ve decided that your happiness depends on a circumstance changing, there is always something you can do differently or a way that you can be proactive. This may not be readily apparent if you have concluded that you are stuck in a hopeless situation. The circumstances are only hopeless if you have limited your options. What is the one thing that you would have to release in order to believe that hope exists? Happiness is waiting to present itself to you when you remove the conditions you have placed on experiencing it.
Remember, this moment is an opportunity to connect to Love and so to live into the fullness of who you are.
As always, do what best awakens you to Love,
