Sparing From Shame

an advent reflection on Matthew 1:19

Love, may your compassion reign in our hearts!

Dear One,

I am writing to remind you of things you already know. You are Love’s advocate for each person you encounter, including yourself. Recall a time when your unskillful behavior was revealed in a public way and the resulting feelings of pain and anger. Exposing shame is a lethal weapon wielded by the gossiping tongue. The compassionate heart covers shame with the balm of kindness, like a shawl of acceptance, knowing that shame is only a word or deed away in each person.

Today is the occasion to give yourself the grace of unconditional positive regard as an integral member of Love’s family, having inherent worth and belonging. Today is also the occasion to have someone’s back, so to speak, being Love’s advocate for them, rather than stabbing them with the spear of shame.

Love is FOR you, sparing you from shame. Love within you is available so that you, also, may stand in solidarity with others when they feel ashamed. In solidarity, there is hope.

Remember, this moment is an opportunity to connect to Love, and therefore, to live into the fullness of who you are.

As always, do what best awakens you to love,

Your Inner Wisdom
