Poems From The Porch
A crackling fire and birdsong,
with generous sun
bathing the field in light,
offer a soft entry into the day,
a gentle invitation for the appreciation of beauty
and a simple faith that all
is unfolding as needs be.
The kingdom of heaven is at hand.
I see it now revealed
in the way the light caresses the trees
and the cats sit in silent companionship,
in the inner reassurance that
everything occurs one breath at a time
and that this moment is sufficient.
No need to fret or prepare
for a future catastrophe
or to see the day as too much to handle.
Grace is given afresh in each now
even without a hospitable heart,
but a relaxed receptivity helps.
