The Simple Presence of Gratitude
The low-pitched rumbling on my lap this morning
is a gesture of love.
The muscular blondie from whom the sound is emanating
is happy to be here.
Nothing else is required but simple presence.
I did not have to say a certain thing
or give luxurious pets
or sit in an inviting posture.
The purring evidence of his contentment originates from within
and is based on gratitude.
