The Idea of Favorites
The spider lilies are making their appearance again,
and the calla lilies are observing me from behind the large wind chimes;
true red and orange-red.
The bush near the porch is displaying her gardenias,
and opposite to her is the bush with a sprinkling of roses;
white and pink-infused red.
The porch containers offer flower spindles,
and from other pots are sprawling vines;
violet and lavender.
There is yellow blooming in the garden,
and purple overflowing nearby.
Out beyond all these is a sea of green,
and further still, grey and blue.
The idea of favorites seems absurd.
As with people, there is beauty in each.
