Mercy Medicine

Love, make us models of mercy!

Dear One,

I am writing to remind you of things you already know. Mercy is the antidote to the relentless badgering of the inner critic. When you notice that the voice in your head is spinning a commentary about how worthless you are or about the unskillful behavior of others, it is time to invoke the Merciful One inside of you to spread the balm of wisdom and compassion.

Self-criticism and condemnation of others is the way that you try to exact justice when you feel guilty or conversely, self-righteous. Justice is not yours to serve, however, because you do not know the whole story—about others or about yourself. The blind spots of your subconscious beliefs and pain obscure the truth.

Today is the occasion to offer the medicine of mercy to yourself. As you practice self-mercy, you will naturally offer this gift to others. In mercy, there is hope.

Remember, this moment is an opportunity to connect to Love, and therefore, to live into the fullness of who you are.

As always, do what best awakens you to love,

Your Inner Wisdom
