Advent is a time of faith and hope. When Mary visited her cousin, Elizabeth, to share the news of her pregnancy, Elizabeth’s own baby “leapt in her womb.”
Our bodies do not lie. Have you ever noticed when someone is talking about someone or something they love that their whole demeanor changes? Their body seems to light up and their eyes sparkle with hope. Love awakens us to joy.
Elizabeth affirmed Mary’s faith by saying, “Blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her by the Lord.”
What have you denied is possible, or conversely, what have you dared to believe? The thought of what or whom makes you light up with joy?
In this season of Advent, don’t give up. Believe that there will be a fulfillment of your heart's deepest desire. Trust in the slow work of the Lord in this incubation period. Seeds grow in the darkness before they sprout into the light of day. The mighty oak began as an acorn, and Jesus was once a fetus in Mary’s womb.
