The Misery of Misperception

It is so easy to act unskillfully

when distracted by emotional pain.

Knowing this to be true for me,

I apprehend, also,

that it is true for you.

Why spread blame in a world

where we are all subject to internal forces

that trigger and drive us?

Let us, instead, soothe the balm of compassion

on our open wounds

and offer the medicine of kindness.

Let us practice looking through the lens of Love,

not fear,

and releasing the offense of taking things personally;

for truly, it is only our misperceptions

that make us miserable.

Perhaps this work of a lifetime

is why we are here.

This work is a gift,

not a curse.

May we embrace the present.
